The AI has also been called out for providing bad information in biographical sketches, and for "proving that incorrect answers delivered cogently can fool people," according to one Twitter user who spotted some bad math generated by ChatGPT. What are the database table requirements? and what do you think i should focus on more at this moment. Eventually players will be able to build a special unite that you send to an unclaimed plot on the radar and you claim it adds it next to your current plot assigned at registration just all buildings will be set to 0 for the player to also upgrade that plot. If you look at Zorg Empire or Cybernations it will almost be a mix of those two games but im using them as inspiration. I can paste the link here so you can see where I am so far and what Im struggling with. They will need to upgrade buildings to start resource production so lets say level 1 lead mine produces 120 lead per hour and it add it to its current lead store. Players when they start off gets 5000 of lead, metal, oil and coal and a pop of 0 as well as a random generated base coords. My question was specific: What would be the best route on creating a PHP coded MMO text based where you upgrade buildings and build armies?īasically I want to create a Text Based MMO Empire Building game using PHP and AJAX for the real time element. This is stupid for the lack of better words. I'm done with this app and I won't recommend to anyone even though I know it's got a large community. Seriously, let loose on some of your restrictions and let new coders like myself receive the help we require. I've tried posting my source code to get answers and help, but the website won't let me, even though I've struggled for hours trying to edit it making it the way the websites wants it to look like. If Stack Overflow is here to help people overcome obstacles and learn the ways of programming, why throw out questions that is genuinely asked with intentions of being answered and helped? I asked a simple question about PHP and SQL databases enquiring on the way forward, but instead it was put up for review and it was classified as off-topic when my question literally was about PHP SQL and the project I'm trying to complete? This question was migrated from Stack Overflow because it can be answered on Meta Stack Overflow.

Apparently FS/VFO (or whatever they're called nowadays) are contemplating an ARM build of JAWS and even have Mac users in mind if not consideration. You can use Intel apps on Windows for ARM, yes, but not JAWS which needs drivers. Best of all it's free, so you can always try both and see if UTM fits your needs, if it does, it's certainly easier to set up and work with using VoiceOver. UTM is fully accessible with VoiceOver without having to use VOCR, but in places is a little harder to setup and has a few more bugs with Windows, since it is an open source implementation driven by mainly a few active developers, but it is also a good option and has improved a lot recently. There is also a free option instead of Parallels called UTM. If you decide to go for it, you can ask more specific questions and I'd be happy to answer and provide help. There are a few more details I could mention like a few shortcut conflicts you will have to get around, but generally, once you set the VM up, it works for all your basic tasks, and things you might be missing from the Mac such as audiogames. It could happen that VoiceOver and NVDA talk at the same time, if for example a notification comes in and VoiceOver reads it while you are doing something on Windows, but of course you can always mute speech in VO temporarily. This shouldn't scare you though, the OCR is really good and not hard to use at all.Ībout 2 screen readers, your Windows screen reader will never be able to read the content of your Mac OS, since it doesn't even know about it. After that, it's possible to start or shut a VM down without VOCR. In fact, you need VOCR for everything in the first time setup, to sign in to your account and create a VM. I'm pretty sure that once you are on an insider build, you can wait for the latest stable release, and then leave the insider program and use it that way, though I never tried this latter possibility. In fact, the only reason you even need to be on insider builds is because Microsoft doesn't provide Iso files for the ARM version of Windows as regular releases, but rather as a testing preview. Both are fine to use with Parallels, you can use them as you like. Insider preview is a kind of beta of Windows releases, where you have 2 different channels, dev, less stable and with frequent updates, and beta, more stable and not so frequent updates. It's far from ideal, but if you need it, it is certainly usable.įirst of all, you absolutely must use Windows 11 insider preview builds for the best performance, but more importantly because that is the only way to legally get an ARM version of Windows. "Orbitor," a machine from 1982, is also rarely found in playable condition. Less than 150 of each were produced - a very small number, especially compared to the more than 20,000 machines produced of "The Addams Family" game, the most popular pinball machine of all time and a customer favorite at the museum, Alverson said. The latter is Alverson's favorite due to its complicated nature. They have several machines by the company Spooky Pinball, including a Domino's branded one and "America's Most Haunted," a spoof on the haunting shows shown on cable TV. The museum's is one of very few in existence that's in working condition, said Alverson. Their finds include "Hercules," which at 83-by-93 inches, with an 18-square-foot playfield, is the largest machine (other than just a prototype) ever made. There's a limited supply of these machines in good condition, he said, and they've snapped up several dozen. "This concept is popping up in a bunch of cities," Rowland said of pinball museums, naming Gatlinburg, Las Vegas, Seattle and Roanoke, Virginia, as a few examples. The two met at ChattLab, a makerspace in the Business Development Center. Rowland, who also owns Escape Experience Chattanooga, agreed. He loved the concept and felt Chattanooga, which has a similar downtown vibe to Asheville, would be a good place to open something similar. That changed last year, when he took his 8-year-old son on a spring break trip to Asheville, North Carolina, and visited the Asheville Pinball Museum. "I had kind of forgotten about pinball over the years," Alverson said. He's been playing since he was a kid, and his first job was as a technician at the arcade at Eastgate Mall. Over the past year, co-owners Dave Alverson and Michael Rowland have traveled the country purchasing the machines from private collections, where most ended up when arcades started closing down.Īlverson, who also works full time as an engineer for TVA, said he has personally repaired each one. 8 on Broad Street, patrons can play just shy of 40 classic pinball machines produced between the 1930s and 2016. "It's been really smooth to upgrade to new versions, we've never had any issues." "It works so well for us - there's never been any bottlenecks, so we're really happy with it," Rehnberg agrees. We don't even look at other options, it's so obvious," he says. When asked if Easy Trigger will continue using Unity going forwards, Gustafsson doesn't hesitate. "When you turn it on, it's an amazing result."Īdditionally, Unity's sound effects allowed the team to add reverb to all level sound effects except for the music, like footsteps on metallic surfaces, which help sell the moody atmosphere of Huntdown's violent world. "You really hear it when you turn it off," Gustafsson laughs. This effect is applied to every sound in the game, which helps keep the gameplay readable amidst the chaos. For example, background noise and music is automatically lowered when you fire your weapon. Unity's built-in audio compression tool allowed Gustafsson to dynamically mix Huntdown's audio in response to player actions. However, Unity's biggest impact on the project needs to be heard rather than seen. If you're under a lamp or under a neon sign, it reflects on the character," Rehnberg says. "We have some really small effects where the lighting on the character changes based on how the level looks. So I've never had any issues with how much graphics you can push in Unity," Rehnberg explains.Įasy Trigger created their own lighting system to add a crucial layer of dynamism to objects in the game, utilising Unity's Sprite Renderer colors and custom shaders We have pushed a lot of sprites at the same time and we've never had any slowdowns, even on the slowest Android phones - we can support really old phones, actually. Huntdown was hand-animated, quite the feat when you observe this hyper-detailed game in motion, and the team credits Unity for the game's stability across platforms. "We have pushed a lot of sprites at the same time and we've never had any slowdowns, even on the slowest Android phones" "It went really smoothly as well: as soon as we got a new test kit for a new platform, we almost pushed a button and it ran perfectly well," Rehnberg adds. "We did all the ports thanks to Unity," Gustafsson explains. The majority of Unity's API and project structure is identical between different platforms, massively simplifying the porting process for Easy Trigger. The title runs impressively smoothly across these different platforms, something we can attest to after playing the game on a Galaxy A12 (a famously low performance Android phone). Huntdown is playable on PC, console and most recently released on mobile. "It makes it more tactical and you don't always have to jump to avoid bullets and projectiles." "The gameplay has a more modern take because we really wanted it to play smooth and fast, and to be as generous as possible," Gustafsson says. Gameplay has also been tweaked for modern audiences: a cover system is complemented by slick movement mechanics, adding a layer of intensity and strategy to combat as you weave your way through neon-drenched obstacle courses. Huntdown brings various quality-of-life updates to the 2D run-and-gun formula, such as implementing more generous checkpoints. However, Easy Trigger wanted to iterate on the classic games that inspired them. We kept it really limited to have the authentic 16-bit arcade game style," Easy Trigger co-founder and lead programmer on Huntdown, Andreas Rehnberg explains. "We had 160 colours at first, then we had to add a few new for some darker tones. To successfully pull off a retro look, Easy Trigger limited its colour palette to evoke the Atari 2600. Those movies are rarely seen in daylight, so we wanted to capture that grit." "These dark movies from the '80s, most of them were black or set at night, like The Running Man, Cobra and Blade Runner. "Huntdown and plays like a '90s game, but the content, the world we are building feels like a sci-fi vision of the early 1980s or late '70s," Gustafsson tells us. Huntdown was created as a love letter to the games and films Easy Trigger grew up with, trying to capture the dark essence of classics like Escape from New York, Blade Runner, Robocop, Starship Troopers, and many, many more. Tommy Gustafsson, the co-founder of Swedish studio Easy Trigger, wore many different hats as director, working on the game's art, graphics, animation, story, music, sound design and voice direction. ĭevelopment started in 2016 with the team building a custom engine within Unity. However, Huntdown brings this genre roaring into the future with stunning, hand crafted visuals and animations, alongside smart tweaks to gameplay which add a tactical layer to combat: no easy task for a five-person games studio. On one hand, it's a retro-inspired 2D run-and-gun game in the vein of Contra, bringing to mind nostalgia-tinged visions of Arnold Schwarzenegger stomping around Los Angeles with shades and a shotgun. Well, in a lot of ways we’ve already decided those metrics. So, what makes a joke objectively offensive and unacceptable in the public discourse? How fair is it to expect stage performers to perfectly flesh out the intricacies of our society in their work? I’m sure they’d also mention the fact that for much of history women were basically property and in no position to fight for social justice.īut, the thing is - comedians are not scholars. I’m sure scholars on the topic would mention the fact that white women didn’t invent the patriarchy, that men did. But that’s not to say that Burr’s take here doesn’t require some nuance. The issue persists to this day, in the last presidential election the majority of white women who voted cast their ballot for Donald Trump. People like Rachel Dolezal and Jessica Krug exist, the phenomenon of white women occupying black spaces for their benefit isn’t some fantasy.įurthermore, the notion that white women have historically upheld the patriarchy and tenants of white supremacy is also accurate. But does discomfort with his delivery necessarily invalidate messages he inserts into his routines? Well, with an examination of his messages things get more complicated.įor instance, Burr’s remarks Saturday about white feminists certainly had truths laced within them. If you’re not interested in a middle aged white guy howling expletives for the duration of his set, then Burr probably isn’t for you. He challenges audiences, his desired effect is some level of discomfort. The shock that his routines evoke is by design. He’s very much an adult comedian, profanity is a trademark of his performances. On the surface level, it’s a matter of a taste. So with a comedian like Burr, the question becomes - where is the tipping point in which edgy social commentary becomes problematic? Well, it’s hard to say. This stage persona has been incredibly successful, leading to multiple sellout comedy tours across North America and abroad in Europe and Australia. He’s made a name for himself with brash comedy that often showcases his willingness to challenge what he perceives as hypocrisy in liberal politics. To a general audience much of this material was shocking to see, but those familiar with Burr’s work know that he’s no stranger to controversy.īurr has skyrocketed in popularity in recent years due to his prolific podcast work, acclaimed Netflix stand-up specials, work writing and producing his own animated Netflix series and his various acting roles. Hate crimes continue to be a problem, with 2020 being an awful year for violence against transgender women in the U.S. Despite perhaps being technically correct, the statement was of course egregious considering the historical violence LGBTQIA+ individuals have endured. There was a particularly distasteful comment about gay people never being enslaved. Burr’s jokes centered around pride month - his stance being that it’s absurd that gay people get the warm and pleasant month of June to celebrate while Black History month has been relegated to the short and comparatively miserable February. His material about the LGBTQIA+ community was perhaps less personal, but problematic nonetheless. Some of his harshest comments on white women included his assertions that they co-opted the woke movement to advance themselves, they rolled around with white men in “blood money” for centuries and that they shouldn’t compare their experiences to the struggles of African Americans from the comfort of their “new SUV with heated seats.” Basically, his belief that there’s a lack of understanding about what oppression is and he’s tired of loud complaints coming from certain groups. The seven-minute comedy set featured scathing commentary on the activism of white feminists and the LGBTQIA+ community and how it has impacted African Americans.īurr’s primary criticism was the attention white women and gay people draw in the public discourse distracts from the fact that African Americans are systemically kept at the bottom of the United States’ social ladder. The primary source of the weekend controversy was Burr’s opening stand-up monologue. In what was his first appearance hosting Saturday Night Live, Burr’s performance divided audience opinion and raised important questions about what is and isn’t acceptable satire in our evolving social landscape. Veteran stand-up comedian Bill Burr took to the stage at Studio 8H on Oct. |
